Interested in Being a Brigade Training Officer?

Have you ever considered getting involved in training, but are not quite sure whether you would like it or have the necessary skills? The Boys' Brigade have a number of opportunities to work with partner organisations in many specialist areas - first aid, drug and alcohol awareness, expedition work, disability to name but a few - that will enable you to deliver training either locally or throughout Northern Ireland. There are also training courses to help develop your training skills and you can observe a training course, to see what is involved.

If you are interested in training, please or telephone (028) 9268 8444, to explore how you can get involved.

Youth Leader Training

The Boys' Brigade recognises the importance of having appropriately trained Leaders with the relevant skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to ensure competent and effective work with young people. Our Youth Leader Training contains core modules that concentrate on the values and methods of Christian youth work, as well as programme modules that are designed to communicate how to plan and carry out the activities that create a valuable and enjoyable experience for the children and young people who come to BB.

There is evidence to show that a residential course has the added benefits of informal learning through networking and conversations outside of sessions, so we would encourage all trainees to take the residential option. Two residential weekends are run each year usually in October and January. For those who cannot attend a residential due to work or family commitments we also offer non-residential options in May and September each year.

Appointment and Registration of Leaders in BB

It is the responsibility of the church to identify and appoint prospective BB Leaders. The prospective leader should then be registered with Brigade Headquarters using form LREG1. Until the prospective leader completes BB Youth Leader Training they can be registered as a Helper or Warrant Officer. The LREG1 form must be signed by the BB Company Captain and Chaplain. This will commence the registration process with The Boys' Brigade. The leadership status of the person in question will remain at pending until an Access NI check is satisfactorily completed.

New leaders are not permitted to work in any role in a BB Company until the registration process is complete and the appointment card has been issued.

Once training has been completed and with church approval the Leader's role can be changed to Lieutenant or Captain using an LREG 6 form (Change of Appointment).

Captain's Element Training
Please note newly appointed Captains must complete Captain's Element Training. This is organised and run at Battalion level - full details of courses can be obtained from the relevant Battalion Secretary.

Please note Leaders in The Boys' Brigade must re-register every 5 years using LREG2 form.
