The Boys’ Brigade is a worldwide, Christian, youth organisation for boys aged 4 to 18 years. In Northern Ireland, the Boys' Brigade, sometimes referred to as the BB or BBNI, is the largest uniformed youth organisation. We have 300 BB Companies meeting weekly, usually weeknights, from September – April / May. The Boys’ Brigade companies are run in local churches and missions throughout Northern Ireland by officially trained local volunteers from the church or mission. Junior Section Musician of the Year 2010 In its fifth year the Northern Ireland Junior Section Musician of the Year competition once again attracted a good entry with 36 boys from throughout Northern Ireland taking part. A range of 9 different instruments was played along with 4 boys who sang solos. The winner was Joseph Parkes from 6th Carrickfergus playing his Tenor Horn. Second place went to Matthew Edgar who played the piano and third place went to Lewis Rodgers playing the bagpipes.
Visit by the LBM Belfast Giants to Ballysillan Presbyterian Ballysillan Presbyterian Church BB was recently visited by ice hockey star Jeffery Szwez of the LBM Belfast Giants, as part of the Giants’ Companies That Care Initiative. As well as spending time with over 40 of the young people who attend the BB each week, Jeff talked with them about how he came to be a Belfast Giant, what he likes most about living in Belfast and it’s people, and answered the many more questions they had about his experience of school and passion for ice hockey. Jeff then spent the remainder of the evening playing uni-hockey and football with the teenagers and learning more about the things they enjoy and challenges they face growing up. Some of the young people even had their own ice skates, and Jeff advised them on how to work to develop their skills and experience on the ice. EXTRA! - Skills For Queen's Badge Course Due to increased demand, we are planning to run another Skill's For Queen's Badge Weekend on the 4th-6th June 2010. With changes in Queen's Badge that mean that a young man cannot complete his Queen's Badge Residential (old Queen's Badge Completion) until six months after finalising his Skills Course, it was felt beneficial to offer the opportunity to complete their Skills For Queen's Badge Course before the summer break. So Captains please think ahead and enrol your boys by 1st May 2010.This course is particularly suitable for Queen's Men who have not completed a Skills Course and are finishing in the Boys' Brigade Session 2010/11 as this will enable them to complete their Residential early 2011.( Application Form).
