The Boys’ Brigade is a worldwide, Christian, youth organisation for boys aged 4 to 18 years. In Northern Ireland, the Boys' Brigade, sometimes referred to as the BB or BBNI, is the largest uniformed youth organisation. We have 300 BB Companies meeting weekly, usually weeknights, from September – April / May. The Boys’ Brigade companies are run in local churches and missions throughout Northern Ireland by officially trained local volunteers from the church or mission. Boys’ Brigade India Team 2009 Written by Ben Magee, 1st Banagher After a successful trip in 2007, the Boys’ Brigade Northern Ireland are sponsoring the building of 10 further homes in Madurai, Southern India. A team of 23 boys’ and officers will be jetting off during August 2009 to work alongside 10 women working as labours , in the hope to give 10 families a simple, decent, affordable home in which to live their daily lives. It is estimated that there is a shortage of 45 million homes in India, with every year an additional 2.5 million homes being added to this list. Although the team cannot improve this statistic it is hoped that for the 10 families that receive these ‘BB homes’ their lives and future may be transformed through the work of the team in partnership with Habitat For Humanity Northern Ireland.
Nearly a blast for BB!!!! Written by Kenneth McLaughlin "BOYS' Brigade adventurers very nearly had a blast on a recent expedition in the Mourne Mountains. Boys from 1st Bluestone, 1st Magheralin and 1st Moira were up the Mournes for a Lurgan & District Battalion Duke of Edinburgh bronze expedition when they made an unexpected discovery.
The young men had set up their tents and given that it was a fine evening they decided to go for a ramble up Hen Mountain led by Lt Geoffrey McNabb.
Halfway up, the Bluestone officer stood on a fin-like, grey metal object which turned out to be an unexploded World War Two bomb.
Upon careful investigation it was decided to evacuate the area and call in the PSNI, who duly arrived 20 minutes later to seal and monitor the area until the next morning, when two vans of ATOs arrived to carry out a controlled explosion." The young men had set up their tents and given that it was a fine evening they decided to go for a ramble up Hen Mountain led by Lt Geoffrey McNabb.
| | Stena Line Fundraising Invitation Written by Kenneth McLaughlin I would like to extend an invitation to Boys’ Brigade Companies throughout Northern Ireland to visit leading ferry company Stena Line’s terminal in Belfast to undertake a fundraising exercise. The Sea Cadets ran a very successful event at our terminal in West Bank Road over the Easter period where they collected money in the car lanes (this was tallied with them washing car/van windscreens) and the departure lounge for an hour prior to two of our daily HSS departures to Scotland (1220 and 1710). We would be happy to accommodate any BB Companies who would like to undertake a similar windscreen washing/collection exercise (the summer months are our busiest period of the year). Incidentally, the Sea Cadets raised approx £450 per day over three days. From our point of view our customers are provided with an extra service before boarding the ship, while the BB Companies get to raise lots of money. It’s a win-win for both of us.If any BB Company is interested in fundraising in this way could you please get them to e-mail me at the address below (please include mobile phone number) and I’ll make the necessary arrangements.Regards, Nigel Tilson (UK Communications Manager, Stena Line) E-mail:
